Today was our church's 130th anniversary party. Our committee planned it for six months and did lots of fundraising to make it not only nice, but to make sure we didn't have to take any money out of our church budget to pay for it. We had a catered dinner, buffet style, and the food was good and plentiful. We provided desserts and the table was full of carrot cake, brownies, cookies and fruit. We had a talent show that everyone loved and square dancing (which not everyone loved!!) but had fun watching. We had well over 100 in attendance and as they say, a good time was had by all!!
Yesterday was my birthday. I'll be honest. I was not looking forward to it because it's another reminder of things I'd rather forget. But Tessi made it nice because she gave me a sweet card and a pretty bracelet first thing in the morning, and my kids from DC arrived after lunch. They brought me some nice presents but best of all, they got me a mirror I'd seen at a market several weeks ago. It was thoughtful and really nice. My husband, who I'd told not to get me anything, got me a few small but thoughtful presents, including a gift card to Barnes and Noble so I can get a couple of new books for my Nook. My one sister sent me a happy birthday message and my other sister sent me a gift card and my brother and his wife stopped by with a card. I'm still not happy about getting older, but it was a really nice day because everyone tried hard to make it nice. I really appreciate that a lot.
Now I feel like I'm catching a cold. I seem to get sick every year in October. The worst walking pneumonia I ever had was in October a few years ago, and last year I was sick on my birthday...didn't even realize until after a surprise party at my daughter's house in DC that I'd had a fever for at least a day. I was pretty much down and out for several days. I hope this doesn't happen again!!
