And the repairs continue...

For the past couple of weeks, my husband has been redoing the powder room downstairs. I'm really not sure WHY, because we never discussed it needing done. Oh sure, it was very outdated. It was probably last updated the day it was put in, possibly 50 or 60 years ago. It had old ugly orange tile around the porcelain sink. Since we've lived here it's been painted two or three times, most recently in a soft peach color.

We rarely have guests in our house so having it look BETTER has never been an issue for me. The sink worked, the toilet worked. There weren't any cracks in the walls and it was nicely painted. But my husband decided to fix it up. He has the skill to do this so that's not a problem.

His time is limited so it's a slow process. First he bought a new cabinet. White. Then he got a sink which needed to be exchanged because it was sized incorrectly. THIS sink is white with a brown marble-like surround. (He shops at outlets so our choices aren't extensive.) We discussed the paint color for about two minutes. We had a half a gallon of taupe left from the upstairs room so taupe it was. That was a freebie! Then we decided to put a glass "tile" backsplash around it. It's for show only since we didn't really need it, but the walls were in such bad shape we had to do something to cover it. The glass tile only came in---yep, shades of taupe and brown.

Later this week he'll be able to hook up the fixtures and it'll be (mostly) done. The floor is going to need replaced at some point, and possibly a new toilet, but it'll be nice enough when this part is done. As I said, no one ever sees it except family, so I'm not too concerned about the floor. Unless you look closely, you'd never know it needs replaced.

It's boring. It's nice, but oh so boring. It's a tiny "fit it under the stairs" powder room and it's all shades of brown and white. I don't know what I can do to brighten it up a bit, but I'll work on it. Since I'm the only one who sees it and cares about the colors, I can take my time.

I still don't know why he felt this URGE to re-do this room, unless it was because it was small and easy to do. We still have our bedroom to do and that's going to be a major undertaking since everything will have to be moved into the two smaller rooms while the work is being done. I'm not even sure where we'll sleep during THAT process!!

One day at a time. One room at a time. No hurry though, although I'd like to walk around my house and NOT see boxes of STUFF sitting everywhere. That day will come...
